Vinho Verde Region
Sub region of Vinho Verde region
Vinho Verde is a well-known DOC in the Minho region of north-western Portugal where it borders the equally well known Rias Baixas region of Spain. The vineyards which surround Moncao, a town on the Spanish border, are typically viewed as some of the finest sources of Vinho Verde where Alvarinho is the grape of choice here for white wines but they also use Loureiro, Arinto and Trajadura. For the less well known red wines Azal Tinto, Vinhao and Espadeiro grapes are used.
