Maconnais Region
Sub region of Burgundy region
Maconnais is a sub region in the south of Burgundy and is centered around the town of Macon.
The area produces a considerable quantity of wine, specializing in white wines made from the Chardonnay grape variety and a smaller number of red wines made from Pinot Noir and Gamay grape varieties.
The region is slit into the following appellations which are sometimes better known than the sub region,
Macon, Macon-Villages, Pouilly-Fuisse, Pouilly-Loche, Pouilly-Vinzelles, Saint-Veran and Vire-Clesse
