Côtes de Castillon Region
Sub region of Bordeaux region
Côtes de Castillon gives an excellent price/quality ratio as new wine makers are settling down to make among the most interesting wines in the Bordeaux region today.
All wines from Côtes de Castillon may also carry the regional appellations of "Bordeaux" or "Bordeaux supérieur".
Located on the right bank of the Dordogne river near St Magne de Castillon, Castillon la Batille and 7 other villages.
Most of the domains are less than 10 ha (25 acres) producing about 22 million bottles all of which are red from Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Malbec grape varieties.
The Cotes de Bordeaux appellation was created in 2009 to bring together several cotes of Bordeaux under a single banner – the idea being to improve the marketability of the wines in question and simplify the overall Bordelais appellation structure. Individually, these appellations were struggling to find sufficient marketing resources to combat the increasing popularity of Bordeaux-style wines from emerging wine regions, particularly in the New World.
